Tap Tremolo

Saga Guitar Kit Forum
Another name for the whammy bar is a tremolo arm.Saga Guitar Kit Forum By pushing down on the whammy bar you can change the pitch of your strings adding some very unique and colourful sounds to your electric.
Let’s take a look at 5 whammy bar techniques that you must remember to implement when using a tremolo bar in your playing.
1. Have a guitar tuner: Using a whammy bar on your instrument will often times put your guitar out of tune. The more aggressive whammy bar techniques used the more likely your guitar will go out of tune. If you are able to get a tuner that is either built into your effects unit, or can be connected to your effects the better. By having a tuner nearby, you will be able to stay in tune even after heavy use of your whammy bar.
2. Have a fresh set of strings: The more you use your tremolo arm, the more your guitar strings are stretched. This can cause wear and tear to your strings and can eventually break. Make sure you have a second set of strings around in case your strings break when using your tremolo bar system.

3. Quick change: Make sure you know how to change your guitar strings s fast as possible in a live setting. If a string breaks while using your tremolo bar, you will need to change your string as fast as possible.
4. Maintain whammy maintenance: The more you learn about how your whammy bar system works, the easier it will be to maintain your guitar. Part of healthy whammy maintenance is to make sure all the parts of your trem system is in working order. Some things to keep an eye on are, the height of your bride to the base of your guitar. You can also keep an eye out for worn down springs located on the back of the guitar under the back plate of your electric. If you have a tremolo arm that connects to the bridge of your guitar, you’ll want to make sure that the threads on the metal arm are not stripped.
5. Lightly tap the bar: Your tremolo arm may not always go back to the original position it started from. This is especially true for floating bridge systems. If you use your whammy bar during a song and your guitar sounds out of tune, lightly tap your whammy bar up or down. Lightly hitting your bar will sometimes reposition the bridge of your guitar back into it’s original position. Try this technique before you rush to your guitar tuner to re-tune your guitar, otherwise you’ll be tuning your guitar in the new bridge position, and when you use your tremolo bar again you’re bridge might reposition itself into the original position before you re-tuned your guitar.
